The Turkana Jewel Cichlid is a stunning and relatively uncommon African cichlid native to Lake Turkana in Kenya. Unlike many of the more aggressive Jewel Cichlids, this species tends to be somewhat more manageable while still displaying the bold personality and territorial behavior typical of cichlids.

Adults develop beautiful bright red to ruby coloration, contrasted by dark fin margins and attractive iridescent markings. Their colors can become especially intense when mature, dominant, or preparing to breed.

Turkana Jewel Cichlids are hardy and adaptable but show their best coloration in slightly hard, alkaline water. Provide plenty of rocks, caves, and visual barriers to allow each fish to establish its own territory. They can be kept with appropriately sized, robust tankmates, but extra caution should be taken when a pair begins spawning, as territorial aggression can increase significantly.

They are enthusiastic feeders and readily accept high-quality cichlid pellets and flakes along with frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and bloodworms.

Care Level: Easy–Moderate
Behavior: Active and territorial, particularly during breeding
Breeding: Substrate spawner; pairs provide parental care
Recommended Setup: Rockwork, caves, open swimming areas, and adequate territory

Note: Individual coloration, pattern, size, and fin appearance may vary. Photos are representative of the species; the exact fish received may differ.
